November 29, 2010

Madrid, 29 November 2010.- Felipe Benjumea, chairman of Abengoa since 1991, today received on behalf of the company the Medal of Honour for Fostering Invention from the García Cabrerizo Foundation in recognition of Abengoa’s promotion of creative work and its support for technological development.

The Medals of Honour for Fostering Invention, which are celebrating their 31th edition this year, are awarded to those people and institutions that have made an important contribution to the development and promotion of invention.

Felipe Benjumea, Chairman of Abengoa, thanked the Board of Trustees, the Scientific and Technical Committee and the President of the Foundation, Francisco García Cabrerizo, in particular, for the medal which “acknowledges our concerns, which we share with this institution, regarding promoting research, innovation and invention, which are the fundamental engines for development”.

“Research, innovation and invention are concepts that express the development of knowledge and its practical application to generate value, which are undoubtedly fundamental elements for sustainable development in today’s world”, added Felipe Benjumea.

During the ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Spanish Higher Council for Scientific Research (CSIC) in Madrid, the García Cabrerizo Foundation also presented medals for fostering invention to the company Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles, S.A. (CAF) and to José Luis García López, a researcher and biotechnology specialist at the CSIC.

The García Cabrerizo Foundation was created in 1977 by Francisco García Cabrerizo, its current President and trustee, driven by the need to institutionalise support for Spanish inventors and researchers and to endow them with sufficient financial and human resources. Since then it has enthusiastically and continuously promoted Spanish invention, research and innovation while also publicly recognising the ongoing work of Spanish inventors to significantly improve awareness of their work in Spanish society.

Abengoa is a technology company that applies innovative solutions for sustainable development in the infrastructures, environment and energy sectors. It is public listed company and its five business groups of Solar Energy, Bioenergy, Environmental Services, Information Technology, and Industrial Engineering and Construction are present in more than 70 countries (www.abengoa.com).
