Abengoa’s sales grow by 37% in the first six months

August 31, 2010

Seville, 31 August 2010. Abengoa, the company that develops innovative technology solutions for sustainable development, has reported a 37% rise in consolidated sales to €2.789 billion with EBITDA of €421 million and profit attributable to the parent company of €100 million.

Abengoa’s strong ongoing commitment to geographic diversification in new markets continues to be one of the key factors behind its continued growth.

The Group’s international activities grew by 46% to €1.892 billion compared to the previous year, accounting for 68% of total sales, with a significant presence in the USA, Latin America and Europe, excluding Spain. Sales in the Spanish market rose by 21% to €897 million.

Abengoa’s diversification of its industrial activities is another of its strengths and the strong growth recorded in sales for the period was driven by growth in the production of biofuels, the generation of solar energy, the treatment of industrial waste and the desalination of sea water for human consumption, as well as the construction of new plants.

The average number of people employed by Abengoa in the first six months of 2010 was 25,696, an increase of 16% compared to the previous year.

At 30 June 2010 the engineering and projects order book was worth €8.918 billion, equivalent to 30 months of sales in new contract activities. Sales in the concessions area totalled €31.784 billion with an average life span of 24 years.
