Telvent to Help Implement Open Road Tolling System in Washington

June 23, 2010

June 23, 2010 - Telvent (NASDAQ: TLVT), the IT company for a sustainable and secure world, announced today the award of a contract from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to help implement an Open Road Tolling system on the SR 520 bridge in Seattle. Telvent will provide the toll collection system for the program. The goal of the system is to improve traffic conditions and increase drivers’ safety, while assuring WSDOT´s ability to accurately and reliably collect toll revenue.

The project is part of the Lake Washington Congestion Management Program, a series of projects to explore innovative ways make the roadways smarter on I-90 and SR 520. The program is supported by federal funding as part of The Lake Washington Urban Partnership Agreement (UPA), a collaborative effort between WSDOT, the U.S. Department of Transportation, King County, and the Puget Sound Regional Council, and includes four key strategies, known as the four T's: Tolling, Technology, Transit and Telecommuting.

Telvent will implement an Open Road Tolling System (ORT) based on Telvent SmartMobilityTM Tolling management solution for highway and tolls to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of toll operations, reducing travel times and minimizing drivers´ and workers´ inconvenience. In addition, Telvent will install its Telvent SmartMobilityTM Remote Operations and Maintenance System (ROMS) to improve maintenance and operations efforts, enhancing long term system reliability.

Telvent´s Chief Executive Officer, Ignacio Gonzalez, stated, “We are pleased to help WSDOT further its plans to improve mobility on the 520 bridge, while assuring accurate and reliable toll operations management. This project will allow drivers to travel at free flow speeds, while reducing traffic jams and greenhouse gas emissions.”

This contract allows Telvent to further strengthen its position in the toll market as a technological leader in electronic toll collection systems. The company also was recently awarded contracts to expand the Pocahontas 895 electronic toll collection system in Virginia, as well as the New Hampshire DOT’s ORT system on Hampton Plaza. The company has successfully completed other electronic tolling projects for the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority, MTA Bridges and Tunnels, and Rhode Island Turnpike and Bridge Authority.
