Abengoa's R&D is based on the core objective of generating knowledge and promoting its application in the field of energy and sustainable development. Abengoa therefore structures and organises its research, development and innovation into the following areas:

  • Materials and nanotechnology
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Mechanics of solids and structures
  • Thermal engineering
  • Process engineering
  • Biotechnology and biomass
  • Electrical networks

Abengoa can develop its R&D+i thanks to the professionals in its research teams. In general, the managers of these research areas share the following characteristics:

  • Doctors (engineering, physics, chemistry)
  • First class research abilities
  • Prolonged stays outside of Spain in leading centres of their research area
  • Currently active in their specialist area through publications and/or patents

Such dedication to R&D has been strengthened by the creation of the Loyola-Abengoa Research centre (LAR) in collaboration with the Loyola Andalucía University Foundation, the first joint R&D centre between a university and a company. The LAR will be based at the Campus Palmas Altas, Abengoa's headquarters in Seville.

The Loyola-Abengoa Research centre specialises in the fields of renewable energy and sustainable development. The centre was created as a scientific and technological forum that is capable of proposing future solutions, with the aim of becoming a space for training professionals in R&D+i.
