Abengoa operates in more than 70 countries with offices and projects in more than 35 of them thanks to its ability to export its products and services. This allows it to meet the challenges of its increasingly consolidated presence in the international and global sustainable development market.
Abengoa decided to focus its growth strategy on the creation of new technologies that contribute to sustainable development more than ten years ago. We therefore invest in research, development and innovation (R&D&i), and with an export plan aligned with our strategy we are globally expanding the technologies with greatest potential and we are also attracting and training the necessary talent.
Abengoa's vision is perfectly reflected in the internationalisation efforts being undertaken in order to become a world leader in the development of innovative technology solutions for sustainable development.
Thanks to its vision of the future, Abengoa has managed to reflect the changes taking place by reorganising its business lines, updating its organisational structure and adopting a more flexible strategy that is capable of adapting to the evolution of the international markets. This work can be seen in its business groups of solar, bioenergy, environmental services, and industrial construction and engineering.
Solar
Abengoa Solar is committed to internationalisation as a key part of its strategic plan. The internationalisation of the business group is based on three fundamental ideas:
To achieve these objectives, Abengoa Solar intends to establish the same activities that it carries out in Spain in other countries, providing its proprietary services from its business model in the countries in which it invests.
As a result of this internationalisation policy, over the last few years the Group has acquired a very significant international presence in countries like the USA, Algeria and Morocco. It is also making significant efforts to develop projects in other parts of the world.
Bioenergy
Once the Bioenergy business group has consolidated itself and become a leader in the production and commercialisation of bioethanol and its co-products in Spain, internationalisation will become a key aspect to the growth of Abengoa Bioenergy.
The international expansion policy has involved exporting the Group's business model. Its primary objectives are:
Over the last few years the business group has acquired a considerable international presence as a result of this internationalisation policy and Abengoa Bioenergy is now the only company in the world with a presence in the three major and global bioethanol markets of Europe, the USA and Brazil.
Environmental Services
In the last few years Befesa has developed an active international expansion policy with a significant presence in more than 20 countries. Befesa's activities abroad have developed from a series of business opportunities into a consolidated group based on the definition of markets and geographical areas of interest.
Befesa intends to create a global activity that allows the companies and projects located abroad to maximise their profits based on technological and commercial improvements that the Group can provide from Spain by implementing the business model and culture it has developed in this country.
Information Technology
Telvent’s business has expanded internationally as a natural process as part of its strategy. Consolidated technological capabilities and constant investment in innovation have been the key elements to beginning this process. This, combined with a diversified business strategy that guarantees sustainable growth, and the strength of the human capital in each country in which Telvent has a presence have proven to be the necessary drivers to position the company where it is today.
Telvent currently has more than 20 offices around the world, which employ nearly 6,000 professionals. It has been active for over 20 years in more than 40 countries, including the USA, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, Sweden, Denmark, Portugal, China, Australia, India and Saudi Arabia. The company’s commitment to internationalisation is supported by its sales figures; more than 50% of its activity is carried out in foreign markets.
Telvent is listed on the NASDAQ, the world’s leading technology stock exchange, and it is the only Spanish company listed on this North American market.
Industrial Engineering and Construction
Abeinsa has made significant investment in its internationalisation process as a key aspect of its strategic plan. Through its strategy of business growth and international development, Abeinsa has positioned itself as one of the global leaders in its sectors. Over the last few years, Abeinsa has worked to strengthen this leadership, consolidating and developing its position in the Latin American markets where it operates and expanding its presence in other growth markets.
The diversification of its activities, combined with synergies between its companies, has provided it with a wide-ranging capacity to supply integrated solutions to all of its clients in any location of the world. The Group has various work centres that allow it to identify opportunities and the market's needs, as well as contributing, as far as possible, to the development and evolution of economies.
The business group's strong internationalisation is demonstrated by its presence in more than 30 countries including Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Peru, Morocco, France, Portugal, India, China, Poland, Algeria and the USA.
