Internationalization is essential for Abengoa as a way of driving growth and as a source of diversification. Abengoa is present on five continents and develops its global businesses from a local perspective.
Abengoa’s initial international expansion was in 1963, when it established its first subsidiary in Latin America, in Argentina, before subsequently expanding its business into Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, Mexico, Peru and Chile. In the mid-1970s the company began operating in Morocco and Algeria, followed by the USA in the 1980s, in addition to other countries. These were important milestones at the time, which have contributed to making Abengoa a multinational with a presence today on five continents.
